The award-winning Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco is quickly becoming recognized as a world-class choral organization for young women. At YWCP, choristers from diverse cultural, educational and socio-economic backgrounds find their voices as singers, artists and women in a nurturing musical environment that empowers them to achieve artistic and personal excellence. Critics have praised YWCP for its beauty of sound, stellar musicianship, and dynamic programming, “. . . a captivating sound, warm, rich, open resonance throughout the range, great variety of maturity, connectivity, and sensitivity was evident and they are simply wonderful to listen to!” (National judges of The American Prize). YWCP creates high-quality choral music which fosters the development of each young woman both musically and personally, as well as teaches important life skills like dedication, commitment, and working in community.
In 2014, YWCP won two competitive, national awards: The American Prize in Choral Performance, high school and youth division; and the Dale Warland Singers Commission Award from Chorus America and American Composers Forum. YWC is working with Seattle-based composer Karen P. Thomas on the commission, and the new work, entitled "A Singer's Path," on poetry of Sara Teasdale, will be premiered in San Francisco on May 21, 2016.
Our repertoire is diverse, coming from many periods in the western classical tradition, sung in many languages, and also includes world music, jazz and Broadway selections. In addition, the Young Women’s Choral Projects is committed to expanding the body of choral literature for young women’s voices by commissioning original works and arrangements.
